Steel Tire Mold
Himile mold is characterized with its steel tread manufactured by EDM. Compared with tread made of cast aluminum, the difference is obvious,
| 1.Service life and accuracy durability |
The forged steel is with better mechanical properties, thus steel molds are with better withstanding of hitting and scratching, and less deformation with heat treatment, less influence by cleanings to the dimension accuracy and roughness of their tread and blades. While cast aluminum is with inferior mechanical properties, with worse withstanding of hitting and scratching, the dimension accuracy and roughness of the tread and blades trend to be influenced by cleaning processing in a certain period of time, leading to the exposure of the under lying porosities, which will cause negative influence to the surface quality of the molded tires. |
|
| 2.Withstanding of erosion |
Aluminum is more chemical active than steel, it tends to be reacted with acid or alkaline compounds during curing process, tending to producing pits and porosities on pattern surfaces, thus leading to worse surface quality of the cured tires, while such phenomenon hardly occurred for steel molds. |
|
| 3.Manufacturing accuracy |
The tread rings of the steel molds are machined by EDM (rough, semi-finishing and finishing) the runout of tread ring and shoulder will be less than 0.1mm. While the runout of aluminum tread rings will exceed 0.3mm, since despite the fact the master pattern of aluminum molds is with higher accuracy through machining by machining centers, however, the later processes (master pattern-silicone pattern-plaster pattern--plaster pattern--assembly,--drying-aluminum mold--manual triming) will cause accuracy degrading. The tests by the tire manufacturers shows that both static and dynamic equilibrium of the tires from the steel mold is better than that from the aluminum mold. |
|
| 4.Reparability |
Since the welding performance for steel is better it is easier for the repair of steel mold. While with poor welding performance, it is harder for the repair of aluminum mold, especially for the repair at the location of sharp edges of the joining surfaces. |
|
| 5.Blades |
The blades on the steel mold can be generated by engraving, without the possibility of disconnection, while for aluminum mold, the blades are inlaid, which tend to be loosen or broken. |
|
| 6.Thermo-conductivity |
The pre-heating time needed for alumimium mold is shorter than that of steel mold, due to better thermo-conductivity of alumimium. However, the normal curing time for both molds is without major difference. |

Tread
The tread machining in the earlier time was basically manual practice with less mechanical processes. It leads poor accuracy and roughness of the molds. Since Himile was engaged in the tire mold business, we developed series of machines and improved EDM process, thus, a substantial up-grading of the steel mold quality has been achieved, and with superior performance compared with aluminum mold. Practical applications of the steel molds by our customers like Bridge Stone, Goodyear, Zhongce, Triangle and Huanan, etc, shows that steel mold is the only type of mould which can meet the long term requirement for curing high performance PCR. |
The available capacity per month of Himile is 300 complete sets for steel molds with the delivery time of 45-60 days. |
